Former Pupil Dinner

The Former Pupil Club held their annual dinner at The Buccleuch Arms Hotel last Friday evening, 27th February 2026.

It was wonderful to see FPs of all generations reminiscing and showing their continued support of the school. A number of our first 6 girls were also present, celebrating 50 years of girls at St. Mary's.

Guest speakers were Lucinda Russell and Peter Skudemore who gave a fascinating insight into the horse racing world. Headmaster, Liam Harvey, gave an update on the school and FP Chair, Ailsa Tweedie, updated all on the good work of the FP Club.

Thanks go to The Buccleuch Arms Hotel for the fabulous meal, and to all their staff for looking after our guests so well.

The FP Club will be running the pavilion at the Melrose 7s on Saturday 23rd May, offering another excellent opportunity for FPs to gather and support the wider St. Mary’s community.

Former Pupil Association 2025 Dinner

Our Former Pupil Association 2025 Dinner was a sell out on Saturday night.  We were well looked after by the The Buccleuch Arms Hotel, St. Boswells. It was lovely to see some of the younger generation supporting the evening along with a table of staff and parents. We were delighted to welcome back PAJ (Phil) Hawes, as our Guest Speaker (Phil was our joint speaker with George Potts at the 2019 Dinner, just before COVID).  Phil was a member of staff at St. Mary's from 1979 to 1988, and was History and Games teacher.  He often accompanied pupils on school trips to Ru'a Fiola and York, he was Housemaster, was involved in the Debating Society; he started up the young Ornithologist Club, and helped with school shows.

FP Dinner - Friday 1st March 2024

A most enjoyable Former Pupil Dinner was held at the Buccleuch Arms Hotel on Friday night. This year we were honoured to welcome Carl Hogg FP as our Guest Speaker.  Carl is currently the Director of Academy and Development for Gloucester Rugby, following an illustrious career of coaching, playing Professional Rugby and representing Scotland. However the majority of his rugby was played here in Melrose alongside his great friend, Doddie Weir.  This year at Melrose Sevens, he will be inducted into the Melrose RFC Hall of Fame.
