There was some fantastic bowling and batting displayed, and the six Belhaven players had a great time mingling with their St Marys teammates. The Dolphins won this match, but everyone had a great time. We enjoyed our match teas before we said goodbye to our new friends. We've got some bits and bobs to work on before our next fixture that we'll tackle in the weeks to come! Well done everyone. Miss R Orr MH

• Friday 20 March 2026 U9 netball vs Loretto The U9 girls travelled to Loretto Junior School on Wednesday the 18th for their last netball fixture of the year. When we arrived, we were met with only four Loretto U9 girls, so we improvised and played three mixed teams, the Purples, the Pinks, and the Reds. The girls took this change in their stride and got to know the names of their new Loretto teammates. The girls played a triangular tournament, with the first game played between the Purple team vs the Red team. Purple won 4-1 in honour of Winnie scraping her knee on the deadly concrete of the junior school courts! The second game was against the Pink team and the Purple team, with Pink winning 8-0! Some great passing and teamwork was demonstrated. Game three had Pink and Red play against each other with Pink winning 4-0! The Pinks won overall, with a total of 12 goals scored! Well done girls, it's been a great netball season, with lots of improvements shown over the course of the term!

In the first quarter, there were some absolutely brilliant defending from Mairi in goal keep, Matilda in goal defence and Emily S in wing defence, meaning the ball stayed up near our end of the court, giving Rose and Clarissa some great opportunities to shoot our 7 goals that we ended the first quarter on.

It was a lovely sunny day thankfully, and all the kids enjoyed their time playing their matches. Unfortunately, both Ardvreck and Loretto beat us, 0-8 and 0-1 respectively. Despite the losses, I was very impressed with the girls who took on the feedback I had given them, and they improved significantly and didn't give up, even after losing! Congratulations are in order for Ava, who got player of the match against Ardvreck, and Bethany, who got player of the match against Loretto. With our girls, we split them into four different teams. The Mermaids (Posy, Maisie, Eva, Pia and Nia), the Fairies (Winnie, Chloe, Mia, Dahlia, Clemmie), the Unicorns (Zara, Hesper, Indie, Olive, Cara), and the Pixies (Bethany, Sakura, Ada, Flossie, Astrid). • Wednesday 4 February 2026 St. Mary's 1st IAPS hockey On Wednesday 4th February we travelled up to Fettes for the annual IAPS hockey tournament. We arrived and had a good chance for a warm up in the corner of the astro and were ready to go with our first match against Sedbergh. The match started off as a very even contest, where both St. Marys and Sedbergh had decent spells with the ball and showed good hockey skills to create chances. St. Marys hit first with Magnus scoring the opening goal where a lovely cross was put in for him. In the final stages of the game, Sedbergh didn't give up and scored an equaliser to finish the game 1-1.
• Wednesday 4 February 2026 U11C Team St. Mary's 9 v Fettes 4The C team took some time to find their rhythm in the first quarter while adjusting to both their positions and their new opponents. As the match progressed, so did their confidence in themselves and in one another, resulting in a slow but steady lead to the game. Then at half time positions were swapped around with many being placed in unfamiliar roles. Despite this, we continued to lead the game with grit, determination and most importantly trust in our teammates. Overall, the players' growth in confidence throughout the game is what inevitably led to an impressive match played by all.

However, these four brave girls stepped up to the plate and helped us have a very interesting game. The first half we lost but we were determined to come back in the second half. By keeping their heads high, they managed to have a huge comeback which wasn’t enough to win the game but made us 1 run off the win what a great game to watch well played girls and boys.

It was lovely to have a couple of spectators too. It was a fast and furious game but at least it kept them all warm and on their toes. We were passing and moving and the girls quickly realised the benefits of moving to a space and changing direction in order to get the ball down the court. • Wednesday 22 January 2025 St. Marys 2nd VII Hockey Vs Mowden Hall 2nd team hockey still unbeaten what a great feeling it is to have the boys play together. Started the first quarter very crowded and the ball flying everywhere but after a break and a talk with the team we started playing the space that was open. Finally, Finnian scored a goal making us 1-0 up Hal and Hector putting a wall of defence up to stop the opposition. John passes long balls through to Lawrence and Archie who got it on target but was saved. Archie and Lawrence decided to take on the whole team by swiftly passing to each other and nearly scoring. Fergus putting on a good shift to save the shots that needed to be saved. For the last quarter Manny bravely came on after being injured and helped us end the game at 1-0. Overall great game from the boys can’t wait for our next game.
• Wednesday 22 January 2025 St Marys 1st VII Hockey vs Mowden Hall On Wednesday we welcomed Mowden Hall as the boys’ team entered their second game of the season eager to build on their momentum following a great win vs Merchiston the week before. With both teams hungry for victory, the stage was set for an exciting contest that promised plenty of action. Due to this being Mowden’s first game of the season, we split the game into 10-minute quarters which gave the coaches a chance to deliver as much feedback as possible. The game plan was to take the same approach as against Merchiston and raise the level and the boys did that to the fullest.

• Wednesday 19 June 2024 St. Mary's v Loretto U13B Mixed Team The weather was great today, with the sun shining as the teams took to the field. Loretto won the toss and chose to bat first. All of the bowlers did a good job at finding the right line and length. The fielding was of a top level with most of the wickets coming from catches and as a result they managed to limit Loretto to 38 runs. After swapping ball for the bat, the team set out to chase down the target. It didn't take long for the team to find their rhythm and the runs started to add up. By the end of the game St. Mary's had managed to reach 91 runs in a great performance by all. It was a good way to end the season and a good last game for all those leaving.

• Wednesday 15 May 2024 St. Mary's vs Cargilfield First Team Girls There was great weather during the course of the game. The girls took to the field, won the toss and elected to bowl first. The bowling was of a great standard and St. Mary's manger to restrict the runs conceded. At the change of the innings after a slow start the batting picked up and the girls quickly caught to the Cargilfield score. With St. Mary's winning the first game by 24 runs. The second followed the same format with St. Mary's bowling first again, this time round the runs scored where much higher than the previous innings. However the fielding was still very good. In the chasing of Cargilfields score the loss of a few wickets slightly hampered their progress and although it was great effort they fell short by 16 runs. Overall it was a great day of cricket, enjoyed by all.Mr R Foster
