Pre Prep 4 - 7

Our Pre-Prep Department provides an exciting environment for our children aged 4-7.

The day starts at 8.25am and finishes at 3.00pm, although we do have a facility for a later pick-up for parents who are either working or who may have older children in the Prep School.

Starting school at St. Mary’s is an exciting, time when children can begin to explore within a safe, secure environment, building upon the excellent start from our Kindergarten.

The children follow a broad curriculum, carefully planned to ensure we meet the individual learning needs of all the pupils and prepare them for the future challenges of Common Entrance.

The introduction of more formal learning is blended with play-based and interactive activities which allow children to develop their self-esteem and to become independent learners. The children’s learning is made both meaningful and connected to the wider world.

Core subjects are taught by Form Teachers supported by specialist teachers for Art, Drama, Music, P.E. and Games. Forms 1 and 2 also take part in Junior Modern Languages each week.

Progression is ensured through regular formative and summative assessment in all classes, which enables us to challenge those more able and support those who need a little extra help.

Our small classes provide a secure, caring and happy environment in which children can develop their confidence. Learning is supported by taking part in visits to the local and wider community and by welcoming visitors to our school. The Pre-Prep classes work closely together, and children work collaboratively in a variety of settings, helping them learn to be aware of the needs of others.

When they leave Pre-Prep, the children will be well equipped for their move into the Prep school.
