Tuesday 2 June 2026 Melrose Festival Junior Ride Out St. Mary's are delighted to have had such a good turnout of riders tonight at Melrose Festival Junior Rideout. FP William Macpherson is Left Hand Man this year, and we look forward to supporting William, and indeed all of this year's principals, throughout Festival week.We are proud to be a part of the wonderful community that is Melrose, with the Festival being a highlight of the town's annual calendar of events.

Tuesday 2 June 2026 Form 1 visit Sandystones Farm Form 1 had a great trip to Sandystones on Monday. They made cake for the cows, fed Titus the tortoise, counted eggs in the barn and met the ponies getting ready for the Melrose ride out.

Tuesday 2 June 2026 Reception Class visit the Police Station Reception had a fabulous trip to Galashiels police station. We were shown round by Constable Robertson and had lots of fun learning about the role of police officers in our local community. We even got to dress up and look inside the police cars!

Thursday 28 May 2026 Childsmile Visit Yesterday morning, we welcomed Allana and Tracey from the Childsmile team, who came to watch us brushing our teeth. Afterwards, the Tooth Fairy had hidden lots of teeth around our garden for us to find! We all received a sticker for our excellent tooth brushing skills.

Wednesday 27 May 2026 Form 5 - pea shoots Form 5 have been busy harvesting pea shoots from the greenhouse and have delivered them to Chef to use in our lunches this week.

Wednesday 27 May 2026 Form 7 Environmental Science All year groups have been playing their part in the garden this summer by planting seeds and harvesting produce. These Form 7 pupils were most grateful to have received a donation of swiss chard and spinach seeds from @hendersonsofmelrose and they have now planted them in one of the raised beds. We look forward to sampling their produce before too long!

Wednesday 20 May 2026 Border Union Schools Day Yesterday, Form 4 enjoyed a fantastic day out at the Border Union Schools Countryside Day in Kelso, adding to their knowledge and experience of rural life. There were around 50 exhibitors at this year's event; have a look at what we got up to!

Monday 4 May 2026 Form 4 learn about Gravity As part of their Forces in Motion topic, Form 4 have been learning about Gravity. We discussed the difference between mass and weight and then used a forcemeter to measure the weight, in Newtons (N), of different objects.

Monday 4 May 2026 Big Blue Blocks Pupils have been enjoying our newest #steam equipment at lunchtime today. Experimentation, trial and error, problem solving, creating and having a whole lot of fun at the same time.

Wednesday 29 April 2026 Poetry Final 2026 Yesterday afternoon we held our poetry finals in the Morrison Hall. This followed the heats held last week where every child in Form 3 - 8 learned and recited a poem of their choosing to their class. Mr Paul Poplawski from Melrose Literary Society joined us for the afternoon to adjudicate a range of impressive recitals from pupils in Forms 3 - 8.It was wonderful to see such confidence in public speaking from our young people, and to hear a wide range of well-chosen and challenging poems.

Monday 27 April 2026 This morning's assembly Congratulations to these budding pianists who entertained us at assembly this morning. We heard a range of repertoire from Piano Safari to ABRSM Grades and all were played brilliantly. Lots of hard work, patience and practice goes into performing at this standard and the core skills that are used benefit all aspects of life.

Friday 24 April 2026 Form 7 visit to The Great Tapestry of Scotland Form 7 visited The Great Tapestry of Scotland on Tuesday during their English/Art lesson. They took part in a session with The Great Tapestry of Scotland's education officer in preparation for their 300-word writing competition.
