U11 D’s Cricket V Fettes
St. Mary’s 32, Fettes 55
With no fixture for the U11 D team last week, we made the most of the sunny weather by heading down to the back pitches to focus on our bowling technique. The extra practice was aimed at building confidence and consistency ahead of today’s fixture.
Annabel was selected as captain for today’s match, and the initial batting pairings were Aoifa & Anna, Orla & Isla, Rumi & Lucinda, and Annabel & Florence, although these were later adjusted after we lost a player due to illness ahead of our innings.
After winning the toss, Annabel chose to field first. This gave us the advantage of knowing exactly what target we would be chasing later in the match — and got the bowling out of the way early on! Each pair faced three overs.

Fettes got off to a strong start, with their opening pair getting the runs tally underway. Too many wide balls kept their score steadily ticking over; however, I was delighted that St Mary’s managed to claim five wickets through some great fielding, including a catch from Aoifa!
It was then our turn to bat, chasing a score of 55. More confident and faster bowling from Fettes meant that we struggled to make contact with the ball. However, some wides from them, along with a few singles, started our tally. Rumi was the only batter to reach the boundary this afternoon, scoring a 4, although losing four wickets later in the match sent our score in the wrong direction.
Despite a loss by 23 runs, the girls were much more alert in the field this afternoon and are beginning to communicate and play well as a team. Bowling continues to be an area to work on, although our confidence is definitely growing in this area. We may also need to be a little more decisive and willing to take a few risks in order to add more positively to our score.
This week, we have another home match against Cargilfield at 2.15pm.
