Despite the cloudy conditions at St Mary’s School on Wednesday, the pupils were full of energy after their recent win against Mowden. This match was an important one for the team as it was their first experience playing hard-ball cricket, which brought a completely different challenge.

Cargilfield won the toss and chose to bat first. St Mary’s started strongly with some accurate bowling, consistently hitting the stumps and taking four early wickets. It was a fantastic effort in the field and gave the team a lot of confidence. However, Cargilfield’s batting line-up responded well and managed to build momentum, finishing on an impressive total of 115 runs.

After a short break, St Mary’s came out eager to bat. 

The team started brightly with some excellent boundaries and positive running between the wickets, giving them a strong run rate early on. As the rain began to fall, conditions became more difficult and it was harder to maintain the same pace. Cargilfield gradually regained control and eventually secured the win, with St Mary’s finishing on 61 runs, leaving Cargilfield victorious by 54 runs.

Despite the result, the St Mary’s players finished the game smiling. Taking on hard-ball cricket for the first time and adapting to challenging conditions made it a valuable experience and a great day of cricket for everyone involved.
