U 11B cricket vs Ardvreck

Wednesday 20th May

St. Mary’s 109, Ardvreck 11

It was a glorious sunny afternoon for cricket at Ardvreck, with the pitches proving to be a real sun trap for both players and spectators alike.

We started in the field and bowled with great consistency throughout, working hard to deny Ardvreck easy runs. Our fielding was particularly strong around the boundary, with some brilliant stops and determined chasing. There were also some fantastic catches taken by EvieFergus and Armel, which kept the pressure firmly on the opposition. Anna spent time adjusting to the softball and bowling conditions, and although a few misfields sadly allowed Ardvreck to add to their score, the team worked hard to reorganise and adapt in the field.

There was also an unexpected interruption in the form of a canine pitch invader, which Nellie dealt with extremely efficiently to everyone’s amusement!

When it was our turn to bat, we initially struggled a little, trying to overhit the ball and missing some opportunities. However, with improved communication and teamwork, we gradually brought things back under control. At times our batting was slightly overambitious, and we learned that quick singles can be just as valuable as big shots. Once we settled in, though, the runs began to flow, with some excellent boundaries and several huge fours and sixes, many of which disappeared straight into the river beyond the boundary! Well done to MaxTommy,CarterChase and Eliza for their charismatic batting!

A big well done to Ardvreck for some fantastic bowling, which created an excellent and competitive game throughout. Thank you to everyone at Ardvreck School for such a lovely afternoon, rounded off perfectly with delicious match teas while watching the A team finish their game.
