Poetry Final 2026
Yesterday afternoon we held our Poetry Final in the Morrison Hall. This followed the heats held last week where every child in Form 3 - 8 learned and recited a poem of their choosing to their class.
Mr Paul Poplawski from Melrose Literary Society joined us for the afternoon to adjudicate a range of impressive recitals from pupils in Forms 3 - 8.
It was wonderful to see such confidence in public speaking from our young people, and to hear a wide range of well-chosen and challenging poems.

Poems from our runners up and winners included:
William T: Homework o'homework, Jack Prelutsky, Hesper: The Head's Hide-out, Kit Wright, Winnie: Don’t, Michael Rosen, Tommy: Jim, Hilaire Belloc, Emilia G: Look Up, Gary Turk, Caleb: The Highwayman, Alfred Noyes, Sholto: If, Rudyard Kipling, Tilly L: Drop a Pebble in the Water, James W. Foley.
Well done to all finalists and congratulations to the winners for their outstanding recitals.

Miss K McRae
