Form 8 (Form 9 today)- climb the Eildons

As part of their environmental science program, Form 8 have been looking at personal agency – their power to do good in the world. The pupils worked in groups and chose to study a charity that aligned with their values, present the work of that charity and why they thought it was important. As a class, we then voted for our preferred charity and an activity that we could organise that would help to raise public awareness.

We selected the Farmers Community Network (FCN), a voluntary organisation and charity that supports farmers and families within the farming community. The offer confidential advice on personal or business matters to farmers in the UK free of charge. We then decided that our own mini ‘Three Peaks Challenge’ would be a good event for us to organise. Of course, the weather was dreadful and we just about got washed and blown away at the same time, but Form 8 bravely carried on, eating the obligatory soggy sandwich that is an essential part of any British summer picnic! We had to abandon the highest peak due to high winds and slippery paths, but instead snuck up ‘The Nugget’ to make sure we had completed three peaks in total. We returned to school sodden and muddy, but glad to have done what we could to round off a fantastic term of work.
