St. Mary’s 43, Cargilfield 59

The 4th team travelled to Barnton on Wednesday to take on Cargilfield School and were given a wonderful welcome by our hosts. The team embraced the challenge of playing on astro, a very different surface from the one we are used to, and adapted brilliantly throughout the game.

To keep the match entertaining and encourage positive cricket, both teams agreed to play without boundaries, discouraging players from simply relying on the pace of the surface to score runs. We batted well as a team and, although perhaps a little hesitant at times to play the bigger shots and find the gaps, we still managed to put together some exciting runs and finished with a very respectable score on the board.

With runs to defend, the team worked hard in the field. There was some lovely consistency in our bowling, alongside strong communication and teamwork in the fielding effort. Despite our determination, we were just unable to contain Cargilfield in the closing stages and narrowly lost what was a very competitive and enjoyable match.
