St Mary’s Lose by 14 runs

In a great battle against rivals, Belhaven, the match went right down to the wire. Strong bowling from St Mary’s openers Emily and Caleb, combined with great fielding from captain Isla, meant that St Mary’s had Belhaven 11 for 2 in the opening 3 overs. Although the wickets did not keep falling in rapid succession, St Mary’s still managed to limit the scoring of some strong Belhaven batsmen. With some accurate bowling later on in then Innings from player of the match (on debut for the 2nds) Hector F as well as Annie, St Mary’s kept Belhaven to a score of 121.

The Batting continued this momentum through the opening few overs with some strong hitting from Hugo T. However, despite being 22/1 (2) - with a questionable out decision on opener Sholto - the momentum sadly fizzled out as St Mary’s lost 4 wickets in 2 overs. Despite a good captain’s innings from Isla in the middle order to see out some of the more dangerous bowlers from Belhaven and settle the innings down a bit, St Mary’s sadly kept losing wickets at a consistent rate. However, our last 2 batters - Hector and Annie - did not want to go down without a fight. For the 10th wicket partnership the pair put on and an incredible 52 runs off 39 balls. This left a very manageable 18 runs to make in the last 3 overs. Sadly, some brilliant fielding from Belhaven meant that Annie was run out through a direct hit.
A great battle between two well-matched sides and some very good spirit and attitude shown from everyone involved!
