BA (Hons) MA, CELTA, PGCE (English Forms 5-8, Form 6 Assistant Tutor)

I came to St. Mary’s in January 2011, having completed a stint as a CELTA-qualified EFL teacher in Edinburgh. Prior to this, I had been working in North Yorkshire, in the Further Education sector, supporting students, running and tutoring programs and assisting with the publication of learning materials.

Having been educated at Glenalmond College, I was inspired by my own English teacher, Dr Byrom, to pursue a BA in English Language and Literature at the University of Liverpool, graduating in 2006. Bitten by the poetry bug, I then stayed on to do AHRC-funded research for an interdisciplinary MA project in Medieval Studies. Poetry from the Middle Ages remains a passion, but I’m also very interested in creative writing, speculative fiction, and the development of English grammar and phonology. In September 2011, I began my PGCE via distance with the University of Buckingham, and completed this demanding but fulfilling qualification in the Summer of 2012.

In the classroom, I particularly enjoy helping pupils to develop their creative writing skills. I run a Creative Writing Activity in the Michaelmas Term, and am always delighted to give advice throughout the year on personal writing projects. Around school, I can often be found in the boarding house, where I thoroughly enjoy running evening activities and taking care of pupils. I also contribute to the coaching of hockey, netball and rounders for the U10 and U11 girls.

Outside of school, my interests are literature (of course), music and my pet snakes, of which there are currently ten.
