About Us
Deputy Head BSc (Joint Hons), Cert Ed, PE, PHSE, Games, Geography Form 6
Brought up in the town of Melrose, I was educated at the local Grammar School. Aged 13 I moved to Dollar Academy where I boarded for 5 years. As a child, I loved all sport but was particularly keen on gymnastics athletics, hockey and netball. Whilst at Dollar I used to gaze out of classroom windows at the PE staff and knew then that I wanted to pursue a career in sport. Loughborough University and a degree in Sports Science followed; I completed the Certificate of Education in PE alongside my BSc.

I began teaching at St Mary’s in January 1992; newly qualified I was in seventh heaven! In charge of all PE and Games, I taught CE Geography, was the Form 6 tutor as well as the resident house tutor and overnight matron! Days were full, weeks were long, we had full boarders but it was such fun – and it is still fun 24 years later. Now Deputy Head, I continue to teach PE throughout the school and coach the Under 11 girls games.

When not running around the campus I can be found clutching a cafetiere of coffee, scrounging for chocolate or somersaulting along the seats in the staffroom! Life at St Mary’s is never dull.
