About Us
MA (Cantab), DPhil, PGCE Director of Studies Maths Form 7 - 8

I have been a parent at St Mary’s since 2003 and with our youngest currently in Reception I will continue to be a parent until the summer of 2022!  I have always been impressed with St Mary’s – from the lovely grounds to the enthusiastic staff and of course the polite and keen pupils. So it was a great pleasure to join the team as Head of Maths in 2013.

Prior to joining St Mary’s I worked in the higher education sector – first as a researcher in drug design, then as a lecturer in the School of Engineering and Physical Sciences of Heriot-Watt University and finally as a consultant working with my wife Sara to deliver training for researchers and academics in the UK and Europe.

Maths was always my favourite at school, and a passion for the discipline and its applications led me to study Natural Sciences at Cambridge before going down the academic route.  My aim here at St Mary’s is to instil that same enthusiasm for maths in our pupils so that they too are ready to move onwards and upwards in their next school and beyond.

On a personal level I have always enjoyed outdoor activities – caving, climbing, cycling and these days dinghy sailing with my daughters up at St Mary’s Loch.  I’m also interested in vintage technology, from old cars and motorcycles through to electronics and vintage computers.  As your children may report, some of this will crop up in the maths room from time to time!
