Junior Modern Languages

Here at St Mary's, pupils in Form 1 to Form 5 follow the Junior Modern Languages programme. This involves participating in listening, spoken, reading and written work in French during the Michaelmas and Summer Terms and then in Spanish during the Lent Term.  Our Upper School Spanish teacher, Miss Amado, provides the opportunity to practise spoken activities with a native speaker and to ask and learn about Spanish culture and traditions.  The children work hard to learn and retain lots of new vocabulary and pronunciations and have fun making wall displays, playing different games and learning new songs relating to the different topics.

It is always rewarding to see the pupils make progress throughout the year and to watch their confidence grow as each language becomes more familiar and they become more comfortable with it.  I know that with each passing year, their Languages base and knowledge becomes stronger, enabling them to develop as confident and effective learners.
