Friday 23 May 2025 Week ending 23rd May 2025 It’s hard to believe that we are in our fifth week of the term and we have been able to play outside in the evening sun every night since the Easter Holidays. Our Friday night boarding last week was a huge success. Despite varying commitments meaning that we were lower on numbers than our usual Friday nights, the staff and boarders had a brilliant night playing outside on the table football table and ended the evening with a water fight!

Friday 16 May 2025 Boarding blog week ending 16th May 2025 It’s been another short but busy week for our boarders. We returned on Tuesday from our long weekend to tennis lessons, athletics and a trip to watch James play rugby against an American touring side at the Greenyards. Wednesday was busy with late cricketers returning from a sunny afternoon at Cargilfield to play tennis and football here in Melrose.

Thursday 8 May 2025 Week ending 8th May 2025 It’s been a short but sweet week of boarding in Abbey Park. We have had multiple sports matches, card games and races keeping all of the borders entertained! Staff and pupils are ready for our long weekend but are excited for another week of fun to resume on Tuesday.

Friday 2 May 2025 Boarding Blog - week ending 2nd May 2025 It has been another lovely sunny week here at Abbey Park and boarders have been enjoying playing outside every evening. Tennis lessons, athletics and maths challenge coaching clinics have been in full swing this week and it has been brilliant to se the senior girls practicing their hard ball cricket skills in the nets. On Thursday night, we celebrated Pam’s birthday with cake at snack time - the perfect birthday party for our super star matron.

Friday 25 April 2025 Boarding Blog week ending 25th April 2025 This week the boarders returned after a relaxing break, making the most of the weather, spending time playing cricket, tennis and running around outside. Tennis lessons have started, athletics club is in full swing, and we are all loving the sunshine!

Friday 28 March 2025 Week ending 28th March 2025 As the spring term drew to a close, our boarders kept up the momentum right to the very last day! After a whirlwind week of balancing homework, recovering from an action-packed play and sports tour, and embracing the much-anticipated spring sunshine, there was plenty to keep everyone busy.

Monday 17 March 2025 Boarders Disco Friday night was one to remember as we welcomed nearly 60 children to the Brownlee Gym for an unforgettable Boarders’ Disco! After kicking things off with pizza in the dining room, the energy soared as everyone hit the dance floor.

Friday 7 March 2025 Boarding blog - week ending 7th March 2025 The week started off strong with some fun as boarders enjoyed playing in the gym and spending time painting in the art room.

Friday 28 February 2025 Boarding Blog week ending 28th February 2025 Monday started off with great weather, lighter evenings and the boarders were ready to start the week had a very relaxed night. On Tuesday, staff made the decision to swap the routine, we played some football and had the girls in the art room first before heading in to complete prep later. Those who went to Gala Harriers had a great evening and cheered on Tilly as she was awarded a medal from her performance at a recent event. Following a busy afternoon on Wednesday, boarders enjoyed playing a large game of Hide and Seek on the Veranda. Thursday was very sunny allowing us to play some rugby before dinner. On Friday morning we celebrated Harriet and Archie’s birthdays at breakfast!

Friday 24 January 2025 Week ending 23 January 2025 On Monday we played some games and talked about sports - in particular which country will win the upcoming Six Nations. The children did their prep and spent some good time playing games.

Friday 17 January 2025 Boarding Blog - week ending 17th January 2025 This week marked our first full week back in the boarding houses after the Christmas break, and it’s been a fantastic start to the new term! The boarders have jumped straight into a variety of activities, and there has been something for everyone to enjoy.

Friday 6 December 2024 Boarding Blog - week ending 6th December 2024 Nice chilled week this week for the boarding team, we started with a cozy Christmas movie night in the boarding houses putting up our trees and decorations with yummy hot chocolate for snack. On Tuesday night we all spent in the Pre-Prep gym for some exciting games of dodgeball and King Ball. On Wednesday we had a packed night with everyone getting back at different times from fixtures, our senior girls helping with the form 5s makeup before their Cinderella and Rockerfella play then we had a massive game of dodgeball in the Pre-Prep gym to hide from the miserable rain. To finish this week off, we spent Thursday night inside playing some kahoot quizzes, then some of us headed outside to play football and others to the art room out of the cold, so a successful second last week for boarding before the holidays!

Friday 29 November 2024 Boarding Blog - week ending 29th November This week the Monday boarders enjoyed a trip to the Galashiels cinema to watch the new Wicked movie and they enjoyed some popcorn and sweet treats. On Tuesday everyone took part in a Kahoot quiz and enjoyed some time outside. Wednesday night included some Wii golf in the boys house and then a couple of games of dodgeball and table tennis in the gym. On Thursday night the boarders played football, a few obstacle relay races and some very entertaining games of dodgeball. A great way to finish the week before the Gap Surprise later on tonight.

Friday 22 November 2024 Boarding Blog - week ending 22nd November 2024 This Monday evening was a cold one! So we spent it cozied up in the boarding houses watching movies, having hot chocolate and toast for snack to fend off the chills. Tuesday night we had great fun in the art room making bookmarks with some of us in the PPG playing very competitive games of dodge ball and king ball. Wednesday night we got right into the fun after no fixtures or prep with some more fun games in the PPG, finishing the night off with a St Mary’s kahoot quiz in the Hamilton involving plenty of hilarity before we headed of to snack, we continued the fun in the boarding houses with the boys playing some Wii golf, and the girls creating their wonderful new bookmarks. To finish this great week off we spent Thursday night completing our drawings for the Lochies big Christmas card competition, then outside for some football to bring the night to a close.

Friday 15 November 2024 Boarding Blog - week ending 15th November 2024 This week at boarding the week started off quietly with the girls watching a movie and the boys playing on the Nintendo switch in the boys house. On Tuesday everyone took advantage of the dry weather and enjoyed time on the tennis courts and a game of football. Those who went to Gala Harriers had a great session and Poppy was presented with a third place trophy for her efforts at the Ladhope cross country earlier in the season. Wednesday involved some time outside and then art as well as some games inside the Sanderson building. On Thursday night the boarders played a game of rugby on the front field, some of the girls enjoyed some time in the art room. It was a good way to finish off the week.

Friday 8 November 2024 Boarding Blog - week ending 8th November 2024 This week’s been a good one, on Monday we took the opportunity to have a quiet chilled evening of watching movies and of course the football to start us off right for the week. This Tuesday night we all took advantage of the drier weather and enjoyed a great evening outside on the tennis courts playing various games. Wednesday involved some more outside games like football, rugby and skipping as well as a few games of mafia on the tennis courts which is a favourite at the moment. On Thursday we spent the night with some of us inside making wonderful art, whilst also playing hide and seek in the Sanderson, and then outside to enjoy a very competitive boys vs girls game of capture the flag with plenty of hilarity and fun to finish off this great week at boarding.

Friday 25 October 2024 Boarding Blog - week ending 25th October 2024 A short and sweet week to bring us back for this winter term, on Wednesday we spent some of the night outside playing with a nerf ball on the grass and then moved inside to play some hide and seek and sardines in the Sanderson, then to finish it off Thursday night we had plenty of fun playing some German spotlight on the front field, whilst others had a cosy movie night in the boarding house.

Friday 11 October 2024 Boarding Blog - week ending 11th October 2024 This week started off with the boys playing a very intense game of dodgeball in the Pre-Prep gym. The girls enjoyed making some abstract art pieces. Mr. Rooney bought down a few chocolate covered strawberries for snack which were thoroughly enjoyed. On Tuesday night the boys and girls came together to enjoy a few games of dodgeball. Wednesday involved a good day of fixtures and the boarders once again took the the gym to play dodgeball. On Thursday night the boarders enjoyed the squad singing competition. It was a good week and we look forward to welcoming everyone back after the half term break.

Friday 20 September 2024 Boarding Blog week ending 20th September 2024 Another week at boarding finished, Monday night thanks to Mr Rooney we got to play with some remote control cars playing lots of mini races and eventually breaking one round the big tree, Tuesday we spent the night out on the front field enjoying the sunshine playing lots of games, Wednesday we made the most of another sunny night and went over to the park racing round the obstacle courses competing for the fastest lap time, and to finish this fun filled week off we spent the night out on the front field playing a big game of capture the flag involving everyone boarding.

Friday 13 September 2024 Boarding Blog - week ending 13th September 2024 On Monday night the boarders took to the art room, and some ventured outside to play rugby. Tuesday saw the boarders make the short trip across to the park which was well enjoyed. Wednesday night involved an intense game of football, art and a collection of Kahoot quizzes. On Thursday the boarders took to the driving range. It was a well enjoyed evening out, with all levels of golf being shown. A great way to close out the week.

Tuesday 3 September 2024 Boarding Blog - week ending 30th August 2024 This week we welcomed back our boarders after the summer break. Wednesday was full of rugby in the good weather and then movies. Thursday had more rugby in more good weather, a couple of games on the tennis court and then a nice, sweet treat of ice creams. Overall it was good few days back and a nice way to settle into the term.

Friday 7 June 2024 Week ending 7th June 2024 Another successful week of boarding completed with lots of excitement before our half term, Monday night was relaxed with our older ones prepping for their assessments and then some tennis on the courts they also had a little treat of ice cream to finish the night off, Tuesday night was filled with excitement and fun doing football, gymnastics, cricket and tennis, Wednesday we spent the night playing rounders and practicing our jumping on the front field with the sun shining, and to finish this week of boarding off Thursday we spent the night playing a big game of cricket on the front field.

Monday 20 May 2024 Week ending 17th May - Friday Night Disco 59 pupils attended our school disco at the Morrison Hall on Friday night. Excitement peaked when children realised we had hired a proper DJ for the evening and they would not be subjected to Miss Burn and Mr Rooney’s playlist choices! The evening was filled with laughter and fun as the children enjoyed playing Spike Ball and Swing Ball in the sun when they needed a break from the dancing.

Friday 3 May 2024 Week ending 3rd May 2024 Monday night we had a lovely night away at the driving range after an early supper, we had lots of fun and plenty of excitement being away from the school, then Tuesday night was very chilled with some of us shooting off to athletics, and then the rest of us out playing tennis or doing gymnastics on the front field, Wednesday night we had a lovely trip to the park after a great but tiring afternoon of matches and then had an early snack to celebrate Pam’s birthday with some cake! To finish this week on a high note Thursday night we got to play a few games of capture the flag and lots of cricket practice using the nets on the front field.

Friday 26 April 2024 BB W/E 26th April It was a great week of boarding combined with great weather. On Monday the return of the cricket nets encouraged some batting and bowling practice. As well as lots of tennis followed by snack and the watching of some football before bed. Tuesday consisted of much of the same, with everyone enjoying being outside. Wednesday night consisted of more tennis and cricket. As well as some causal rugby and a very intense game of football. Which was a good close to the day after a great set of cricket matches. Thursday was a day of high energy filled with more tennis, rugby and football. It was a great week with good weather. We look forward to the rest of the term.

Tuesday 23 April 2024 Week ending 19th April 2024 Lovely to be back at boarding after a well deserved holiday, and to start it all off we were lucky with some nice weather this Tuesday night so we spent our time outside playing a few games of tennis since the nets are finally up for summer! We had a similar night Wednesday night as the weather was even better so we stayed outside and went on the front field to play some cricket, and then enjoyed a movie night before bed. Then to top it all off Thursday night we had even more competitive games of tennis in the sun, and some rugby on the grass. A very short and sweet start to the summer term that we have all thoroughly enjoyed and can’t wait for more next week!

Thursday 29 February 2024 Boarding Blog w/c 26 Feb This weeks been fun packed in the boarding house Monday night we had some friendly football played outside, Tuesday lots of us packed off to athletics while the rest of us enjoyed some hide and seek inside, Wednesday we spent the night outside playing football and practicing our rugby passes and Thursday we spent the night split in the art room and playing rugby in the tennis court. To top it all off this week we had our extremely successful Friday boarding with this terms theme as America, we all had lots of fun with our nerf gun shooting range manned by Mr Rooney, plus our saloon bar ran by Miss Burn serving milkshakes and popcorn which was a big hit , Pam’s rock and roll diner serving pizza and chips American style, Wii baseball tournament ran by Miss Pugh, and the extras like the table tennis room, and giant bowling, our karaoke/dancing, plus our race car simulator with our gappies wandering between, safe to say we all thoroughly enjoyed this terms Friday boarding.

Thursday 22 February 2024 Boarders Got Talent Show - 21 February Last night, 27 pupils piled into the Morrison Hall alongside the boarding team for the annual ‘Boarders Got Talent’ competition. Gap Student Russell was our entertaining host for the evening while Rebecca was our official event photographer. All 11 acts were brilliant and made the judging process very tough for the panel of Mr Outram, Miss Pugh and Miss Burn. In the end, Maisie took a well-deserved third place for her piano performance, Rose’s incredible horse jumping show earned her second place and Maddie took home the gold for her amazing dance routine which almost had the audience under a trance! Special mentions were awarded to Gabriella and Thomas for their standout performances within their groups. Well done to all competitors on a brilliant evening!

Friday 8 December 2023 BB W/E 8th December It has been a huge week in the boarding house with assembly’s finished, Gap Surprise and Christmas carols. Monday night had games in the Sanderson followed by movies back in the boarding houses. On Tuesday night we had athletics at Tweedbank for some with others crafting in the art room. The girls had the first Christmas movie for the season that night. With the tree going up on Thursday. On Wednesday there was an intense game of spoons in the Sanderson along with ping pong and more time in the art room. Thursday night had more indoor activities and tree decorating in the girls house with lots of eagerness for Gap surprise the following day. Friday night brought 42 boarders to Innoflate dressed in their most unimpressive clothing items. It was a blast for students and staff to be jumping around all night! The journey back was filled with smiles, laughter and thankyous after a great night of fun!

Friday 24 November 2023 BB W/E 24th Nov Another chilly week down in the boarding houses. This week was filled with productive studying from all of the Senior Students as they prepared for a busy week of exams. On Tuesday, our boarding prefect, Mary Tweedie, was judged on her choice of music in which she did not disappoint. A new card game was introduced on Wednesday, Spoons, which brought out the most competitive side of everyone. The busy week was finally topped off with birthday celebrations for Georgina and Alex. All the boarders left on Friday excited for the Gap Surprise which was happening the following Friday.

Friday 17 November 2023 BB W/E 17th Nov It has been another busy and fun filled week in the boarding house. We have had strong sessions in prep as our middle schoolers had their exams this week and saw great revision from our senior school boarders. On Monday night the boarders played hide and go seek in the Sanderson followed by a few rather competitive card games in the girls house. In Tuesday there was more hide and seek along with the excitement of Mr Rooneys race car simulators. Wednesday night brought more exciting racing on the cars.Thursday night brought more competitive car races as each form had a go with the form 8 girls triumphantly beating the boys. There was also some delicious chocolate cake for snack as a cheeky celebration for Kiandra’s birthday on Friday. It has been a fun and busy week as usual and we look forward to next week

Friday 10 November 2023 BB W/E 8 Nov Another week passed in the boarding house and Monday brought many Kahoots and games in the PPG as the typical Scottish wet weather kept everyone inside. On Tuesday, wall ball, handball and touch was played on the courts despite the early, dark nights trying to stop that. On Wednesday, the boarders displayed their best golfing skills at Ashkirk driving range with some very impressive and some very debatable swings. The week was finally topped off with more outdoor activities.

Friday 27 October 2023 B/B WE 27th Oct All the boarders came back from their half term holiday excited and ready for all the activities in store for the second half of the term. Despite Winter being in full force with dark and cold nights, Alex introduced a new game for the tennis courts to decrease the choice of handball as a boarding activity. Wall Ball then became quite popular for the short first week back.

Sunday 1 October 2023 B/B WE 29th Sept It’s been a busy week in the boarding houses with lots of indoor and outdoor activities. Monday night involved an exciting and fun game of handball on the courts, with Tuesday night bringing more handball, athletics club and birthday celebrations for Ella in the girls house. Wednesday evening involved delicious nachos for tea and loads of activities in the Sanderson including Just dance, crafting in the art room, a movie of Moana and a giant ping pong tournament! Monday 25 September 2023 B/B WE/22/09 The boarding week began with a visit to the park for the new Form 3 boys that wanted to board for the first time. A wet Tuesday brought upon more of the much loved handball on the tennis courts in which was continued through Wednesday night as well. A kicking competition was taken on by Alex, Mr Rooney, Antony and Jamie in which Mr Rooney showed no remorse kicking it from the half way first try. Finally the week, was finished off with another big game of touch rugby on the front pitch.

Friday 30 June 2023 W/E 30th June Despite the busy last full week of school for the pupils, as it was filled with excursions and camps, the boarding nights was fairly quiet. On Monday, we had no boys boarding; however, the girls spent the night at the park. Tuesday night brought along a movie night in the girls house and Wedneday the boarders made an obstacle course with equipment from the sports shed, followed by ice creams. On Thursday, all the boys went to the park and played a version of tag but with a rugby ball, followed by a classic Australian version of backyard cricket and some more ice creams.

Friday 19 May 2023 Week Ending 19th May The boarders were welcomed back on Tuesday night with games of capture the flag on the front pitch. Wednesday night brought more fun with capture the flag, tennis, running in the sunshine and chilling on the front pitch in beanbags. Thursday brought fun games of PIG with everyone getting involved and tennis on the courts. It was a great week back after the long weekend with lots of laughter and fun.

Friday 12 May 2023 W/E 12th May 23 The week began with a buzzing atmosphere because of the Friday Night Boarding the week before. That Friday consisted of bubble football, where many boarders underestimated the power of others and resulted in being sent soaring, and a BBQ ran by Mr Inwood and Ms Burn.The Monday consisted of the usual outdoor games and Kiandra introduced the boarders to an Australian game called 'PIG' on Tuesday. On Wednesday, the boarding staff were surprised with a dinner at Monte Casino and the night off while Mr and Mrs Harvey, Mia Harvey and Mr P, looked after the boarders.

Friday 28 April 2023 W/E 28th April The week began with some cricket in the nets and some games and music. Discussion of what to do with the long nights then brought about a large game of capture the flag on the freshly mowed lawns where some thoughtful tactics were displayed. The stress of Wednesday night was especially heightened in the boys boarding house for Mr Rooney as they watched the Arsenal versus Manchester City football match. The boarding week then finished with some more tennis and cricket.

Sunday 23 April 2023 Week Ending 21st April 2023 The boarders were welcomed back to the Summer term with big smiles and sunshine. Tuesday night was spent running outside playing handball and soaking up the long night. On Wednesday the boarders adventured to the Eildons and hiked up the left summit. It was a beautiful afternoon with awesome views from the top and great conversations, ice lollies and chocolate for the journey. Thursday night involved cricket club, tennis lessons and playing outside. It was a busy but enjoyable week made better with the return of all the boarders. We look forward to all the fun activities coming up this term.

Friday 10 March 2023 W/E 10th March This week the boarding house was filled with laughter and fun once again. On Monday night the boarders enjoyed handball on the tennis courts followed by a movie in the girls house. Tuesday night was spent having fresh air outside once more and making memories. Wednesday night had a mix of activities with boarders running around outside, watching movies and a big game of hide and seek inside (with some people never being found)! Thursday morning brought French toast, bacon and maple syrup for breakfast - much to everyone’s delight. With the evening having a giant game of football on the front oval with an intense game of dodge ball in the PPG. It has been a great week with lots of fun and we look forward to our Friday night boarding with even more activities and games and even some dressing up!

Tuesday 7 March 2023 W/E Friday 3rd March The week began with a quiet Monday filled with ping pong and arts and craft. On Tuesday the boarders' continued love for football and handball on the tennis courts was heightened as the nights gradually got lighter. On Wednesday, the boarders played a very intense game of hide 'n' seek where some very clever hiding skills were displayed. The boarding week then came to end with a football game where all forms got involved on Thursday night.

Saturday 25 February 2023 24 -2 - Week 6 On Monday the Boarders were welcomed back after midterm break. We spent the evening in the Art room crafting and playing Ping Pong.

Friday 3 February 2023 Week 4 The boarders had a relaxed Monday playing ping pong and crafting out in the art room. Tuesday night brought many smiles as we ventured to Dunbar to swim and enjoy the wave pool and flume - making record times down the slide. There was definitely a lot of karaoke on the bus. Wednesday night was spent listening to awesome tunes out on the tennis courts with a big game of competitive handball. Thursday was spent playing an epic match of football, handball and chilling in the art room after working hard at prep. It was a great week filled with lots of laughter and fun.

Friday 27 January 2023 Week ending 27th January 2023 As the snow melted and the weather began to warm up, the boarders eagerly looked forward to an exciting Wednesday evening at the Selkirk driving range where we hit a few balls. Following this, the two Gap students organized an eventful evening to help celebrate Australia Day where everyone played a very competitive Australian themed Kahoot. The evening was finished off with some fairy bread and Milo!

Friday 13 January 2023 Week ending 13th January 2023 The boarders were welcomed back on Monday night with celebratory cake for Miss Pugh’s Birthday. Unfortunately the weather was not nice enough to be outside so we spent the evening playing ping pong, crafting in the art room, and doing just dance. On Thursday night we managed to run around outside between showers having loads of fun for the first week back.

Thursday 17 November 2022 Week ending 18th November 2022 We had a busy week last week with a trip to Dunbar Leisure Pool on Tuesday night which was popular with both boarders and staff. The flume and wave machines were put to the test with nineteen St. Mary’s pupils adding to what is probably quite a nice and quiet night at the pool normally!

Friday 4 November 2022 Week ending 4th November 2022 We have noticed the difference that the hour time change has made in boarding this week with the night’s drawing in much quicker. On Monday night, the kitchen cooked us some Halloween burgers and jelly and we piled into the girls common room to watch Hocus Pocus. The darker nights have meant that activities this week have consisted of nights playing table tennis and evenings in the art room. On Thursday, the still and dry conditions meant that we were able to light the fire pit and sit together roasting marshmallows, playing games and drinking hot chocolate.

Thursday 29 September 2022 Week ending 30th September 2022 The evenings this week have really made it feel as though winter has arrived but this has not dampened spirits in the boarding houses. We were able to get outside on both Monday and Tuesday for Handball, Kubb, Basketball and Football followed by Wii golf and the Great British Bake Off back in houses before bed. The weather on Wednesday however had other plans and the rain put a stop to any outside activity. Instead we had a successful games evening in the Sanderson with board games, Just Dance, Mr Rooney's racing car simulator and the art room all being very popular activities. A staff v pupils race on the car simulator was an exciting way to round off a fun evening after a busy day of fixtures.

Thursday 22 September 2022 Week ending 23rd September 2022 Boarders returned to school on Tuesday feeling refreshed after a long bank holiday weekend. Tuesday was spent playing games outside before the girls headed back to the boarding house and watched the Great British Bake Off with cups of herbal tea. After a busy afternoon of block fixtures against Loretto on Wednesday, we decided to make the most of the remaining lighter evenings and headed to the play park at which was good fun as always!

Thursday 30 June 2022 Week ending 1st July We have had a slightly unusual week in boarding this week due to the Forms 6, 7 and 8 being away on various camps. Monday night was quiet and the girls enjoyed watching a film and making jewellery with Miss Amado. On Wednesday night the boarding team welcomed 27 Form 2 and 3 boarders to our boarding taster evening where the younger students have an opportunity to try boarding with their friends. Mr Rooney organised some fantastic relays, races and games on the front pitches before we headed into snack with Pam and then bed. It was fantastic to see how excited all of the younger boarders were and the chatter from dorms suggested that everyone enjoyed themselves!

Friday 10 June 2022 Week ending 10th June With assessments taking place for the older pupils this week we have been able to enjoy some more laid back evenings this week. Monday was spent outside with games of tennis, cricket and handball after the younger pupils went out into Melrose to cheer on some young St Mary’s pupils taking part in the annual Junior Ride Out. Tuesday was very similar, after prep we spent the evening outside enjoying the weather again with tennis, cricket and games of tig and some films and quiet activities in the boarding. After some horrendous weather on Wednesday, outdoor activities were warmly welcomed once the skies were clear! The art room was full of painting and some of the Form Fours enjoyed playing Just Dance in their classroom. There was also opportunities for revision for those who wished. On Thursday evening, boarding staff took some very excited Form 6 pupils to the play park to celebrate the end of their summer assessments while other pupils stayed at school to help set up the French
