U11 v Cargifield
Wednesday 12th January
St. Mary’s 17, Cargifield 12
After no netball last year due to lockdown, the girls were excited to have a fixture at home against Cargifield . After a thorough warm up, Cargifield won the toss and with it the first centre pass.
We finished a slow first half one goal down and knew that we needed to wake up if we wanted to have a chance at competing for the win in the second half. A slight shuffling of positions meant some new tactics were introduced including moving our super Goal Shooter Sophie into Goal Defence. Her attacking brain was put to good use as she intercepted most of her opponent’s passes in order to gain possession of the ball. Both Ophelia in Wing Attack and Esmee in Wing Defence kicked into action and worked tirelessly to get into space and avoid Cargifield players, smoothly transferring the ball to our attacking end. India stepped up in what was her first ever netball match and scored three goals including one from the edge of the D which shocked her more than it did anyone! Aleshya worked hard in Centre throughout the game especially connecting passes from the midfield to Martha in the D who managed to score 11 of our 17 goals. Simultaneously our defence worked tirelessly with Jemima blocking shots from the Cargifield attack and knocking any dangerous balls out of play while Megan put her body on the line falling over in an attempt to prevent them from scoring.
It was definitely a game of two halves but once we found our rhythm, the girls played fantastically and deserved their win.
Well done, girls!
A wee note from Mrs Bell- I was so proud to read this and receive an update from Miss Burn. It sounds as if you worked hard and listened well – brilliant! J
