U10's Rugby Festival at Mowden Hall

Our U10’s travelled over the border on Wednesday to participate in the Mowden Rugby Festival. There were 10 teams from 7 different schools, which was played on a round robin basis. In all, 9 matches of 6 minutes were played. The weather was good to us as it was dry and sunny, although it was a little cold but the nature of the festival meant there was no time to feel it!
Over the duration of the festival our boys got better and better. In attack, we kept a good initial shape then looked to punch up the middle before looking to put the ball out wide to attempt to outflank. Handling skills gradually improved to allow us to be more consistent with this. Allied to this was some excellent individual evasive running and support play which led to some good tries.

More pleasing on the day was our individual and collective tackling in defense. Together with our willingness to cover back we prevented a good few opposition tries. It is fair to say some boys took a big stride forward with their tackling contribution, consistency now is the key!
Overall, the boys did so well to build their game as we went game to game. We adjusted well to the different RFU laws, never complained that everyone had to play every minute of every match as we have no other boys to use as subs in this 7 a side event so everyone genuinely gave their best. Being a RFU festival no recording of scores or results took place, but we can say the boys lost only one, perhaps 2, matches. Well done. Back to it next week at Belhaven.
