 U13 A boys match report, Cargilfield 06-10-21

After sadly losing our fixture last week the boys were very excited to get stuck into this week’s match against Cargilfield. Unfortunately, we were missing a couple of players through injury and illness but this gave good opportunities to others to step and make a claim for positions in the 1st team. We travelled up to Edinburgh on a lovely sunny afternoon and spirits were high.

We were up against a big fast and skilful Cargilfield team and the opening exchanges let us know we were in for a tough game. We struggled to retain possession in the first half and conceded several key turnovers leading to scores for the opposition. When we had the ball we moved it well and made some powerful surges into the opposition half but again, credit to our hosts, ran out of support and lost possession. In the second half we made improvements to our rucking and managed to keep the ball more but were under constant pressure through strong defence. We scored a late try in the game which was a just reward for all of our efforts. Key work ons going forward will be our breakdown work, focussing on getting there early and securing the ball. We will also look to fill the guard positions aroundthe ruck to avoid giving away cheap ground. On to the next….
