U9 Rounders v Belhaven
It was a hot, sunny afternoon last Wednesday for the first rounders match for our youngest team against Belhaven.
Belhaven won the draw and they started fielding first. We played two innings, thirty balls each.
Time first for our girls to show their batting skills that they have been improving throughout the term. Predictable and, although very excited and enthusiastic, the few first balls were a ‘warm up’ for St. Mary’s, who didn’t get to hit so many good balls, but once focussed on the match, we got a few rounders and half-rounders.
What to say about fielding… what an exciting and accurate performance shown by our girls!!!! Quick decisions, good communication, some brilliant catching, in where the girls looked very confident ,and they were very brave when catching the ball instead of waiting for it.
St. Mary’s finished the first inning with all its players in and Belhaven finished with seven of their nine players out, having been stumped by our young girls!!
The second inning couldn’t have started more thrilling, a few of our players were out at the very beginning, their great courage made them taking the risk of running to the next base when they may not need it, but that fact aroused in the girls a competitive spirit, which was lovely to discover!
The match ended with flawless fielding again, which was over by the ball 26, because Belhaven didn’t have enough players to carry on!
The final score was St. Mary’s 14 1/2 Belhaven 9 1/2
Our youngest team is standing strong!
Hooray St. Mary’s, Mrs Routledge and myself are very proud of you all!
A big well done to
Stella, Meisha, Lizzie, Matilda (C), Annie, Kirsten, Holly, Grace, Coco and Bene
