This Wednesday’s fixture was against Merchiston (A), and it was a perfect day for football, with little wind, reasonably firm ground and no sunshine. The stage was set for one of the best games of football I have ever seen at U11 age grade.

The match began with some really end to end, high quality football, which would be a consistent theme for the match. Both teams were distributing well, passing into space and running with the ball, displaying good agility and skill levels. We scored first, with a lovely goal resulting from some excellent ball play from out forwards, Rafe, Reece and Lochie, supported well from the midfield by Gregor and William. Merchiston went on to equalise soon after leaving us neck and neck by half time.

The Second half was just as juicy, with both teams fighting hard for possession and for those key goals. Merchiston had more shots on goal, but were only able to sink one strike in on target. Our lads however, fought back well, with a super last minute goal, slotting the ball past the capable Merchiston Keeper. It must be mentioned that our back three, Nic, Isaac and Aleks were formidable in defence and goal, providing us with a solid platform for our forwards to play off!
Going into extra time, it was neck and neck, until we got a penalty, which the Merchiston keeper saved superbly, resulting in a final competitive score of 2-2. We then went on to have a fun game of penalties, with everyone getting a shot, and still the score remained level with three goals being scored by each side.
It was a fabulous match with a great level of competition and comradeship, supplemented by great displays of athleticism and team spirit. A huge thanks to everyone who came to support, to the boys for their hard work, and Merchiston for hosting us so well.
