Form 3 Help Clear the Tweed of Plastic Rubbish

On Monday afternoon, Form 3 helped to clear the bank between the Swing Bridge and the landmark ash tree as the Battery Pool curls round the bend.

This is the second litter pick that we have undertaken this term as part of our commitment with Surfers Against Sewage to become a Plastic Free School.

It was a beautiful Spring afternoon and the children set to work with grabbers loaned to us by Melrose in Bloom. In around an hour they picked an astonishing 15 kilograms of plastic rubbish.

There was some good finds including foam cladding, bottle caps and bottles, polystyrene, bags and lighters; we even found a shoe! We headed back to school knowing that none of that plastic would find its way back into the River Tweed and out into the open ocean.

Well done to all involved!
