U9A Football v Mowden Hall

Wednesday 31st Jan

Mowden Hall 0 - St. Mary’s 5

After getting prepared for the journey down to the great south we jumped on the minibus and were on our way. After a steady hour and a half drive we arrived at Mowden Hall and were greeted with a warm welcome. The boys got their boots on and we kicked off, going into a very strong wind with the sun in our eyes. Tom D put in some cracking saves and kept a good first half clean sheet. The boys passed the ball very well and they applied pressure very well, especially when the opposition had the ball near their box. St. Mary’s ceased this opportunity and Finlay B with the opening goal put St. Mary’s 1-0 up.

After the boys battled out the harsh wind and sunlight, it was their turn to have the wind at their backs. Ewan G took advantage of this and managed to score a superb hat-trick whilst also being able to offer a good attacking threat and also bagged himself an assist. Christian G and Blair A helped their own at the back and putting in a top performance and with good communication this allowed the duo to give the opposition very few chances. Nic J went in the first half was playing in the CM role where he was our N’golo Kanté of being everywhere on the pitch, putting in tackles and getting the ball up the pitch to Ewan, Finlay and Rory. Finlay B’s ability to the control the ball and using his height and strength to his advantage made him able to hold off the defenders to give his teams mates time to get up the pitch and into good attacking spaces. Rory C played a vital role in defence and attack as he commanded the right-hand side of the pitch as he can take his time with the ball and dribble his way past opposing players with an almost ‘Messi’ like way.

Overall the boys commended themselves very well and represented St. Mary’s with the highest standard, as their manners on and off the pitch were top class!

We can build on this performance and we look forward to our upcoming fixtures further into the term.
