U9 Rugby v Belhaven Hill
Wednesday 15 November
A Great Game of Rugby...
The Under 9 rugby squad were once again away on Wednesday when they travelled to Dunbar to take on their counterparts from Belhaven. With limited spaces available on the mini bus we could only take a squad of 7 but pleased to say that all the boys played 30 minutes of rugby, 3 periods on 10 mins.
In what was a very evenly matched game which flowed from end to end with some very good running rugby the first period ended 1 - 1. The second period started as the first had finished, strong running by Belhaven and a couple of missed tackles was the only difference between the teams in this period of play. Belhaven coming out on top 4 tries to 2. So onto the final 10 mins, St Mary's played some of their best rugby of the season so far. Hard tackling and fine rucking being two areas that stood out followed by fine support play and communication resulted in two more tries with Belhaven restricted to only one had it not been for our hosts also putting in some solid defence St Mary's might just of snatched a victory final score Belhaven 6 St Mary's 5.
A special mention must go to Mr Bailey from Belhaven for doing an excellent job in game coaching both teams during the game which helped to keep the game flowing. Thanks again to the St Mary's travelling support who are always welcome and I know that the boys appreciate you coming along.
This week's area to work on again! receiving the ball whilst running forward.
On a final note credit to both teams for making it a very entertaining game well done.
