U9 Rugby Festival @ Merchiston

On Wednesday past St Marys U9 squad took part in  a festival of rugby at Merchiston  and a festival of rugby it was with all teams considering the cold conditions playing some very good rugby.  We played three games in all the first against Ardvreck. Our boys started well scoring first and with continued pressure throughout the game recorded a fine win. Next up were our hosts Merchiston, St Marys continued to play some super rugby with the support play being first class along with good communication made sure of another fine win.
Our third and final game against Fettes which was going be our hardest as they had also won their first two games. What a fine game is was with two evenly matched squads, both teams ran the with the ball, tackled well and played with great passion. St Marys once again started well scoring first and if it had not been for some sound defe4nce from Fettes there could have been more. The second half Fettes started well scoring two quick tries for the rest of the game both teams continued to contest for the ball with some hard rucking and tackling. The game looked like heading for a victory to Fettes but St Mary’s never gave up and scored with the very last play of the afternoon. A draw 2-2 a fair result, well done to all involved the players, parents and Grand Parents from St Marys who came along to support the squad..
A good all-round performance and squad effort. Every player may not have scored a try butt all players gave a scoring pass great team work. Next up Belhaven away.
