U9 Hockey v Fettes

 Wednesday 1st Nov

The Under 9s, consisting of all the girls in Form 3 and 4, travelled to Fettes today for a five a side indoor hockey tournament. Each school had three teams of mixed ability and were scheduled to play the other school’s teams in three 8 minute matches. Three points were awarded for a win, two points for a draw and one for a loss.

Throughout the afternoon there were many positives to note from all three St Mary’s teams. The girls demonstrated a much improved knowledge of positioning, which opened up the field of play for some wonderful passing and attacking runs. They were also much more determined when in defence, tackling strongly and wanting to win the ball in order to move it up the field to the forwards. Throughout all the matches there was some super shots on goal, resulting in 8 goals scored: the defences worked well and only conceded 4 goals throughout the afternoon.  After the points were added up from all the matches St Mary’s were the winners with a total of 18 points to Fettes’ 14.
The girls continue to improve and are putting into good practice the skills learnt in games, they will be sure to give Loretto some strong competition next week.
Well done girls
