U10 Hockey v Belhaven

Wednesday 11th Oct

STM 7 - BH 1
Captain Bea

The morning was drizzly but the forecasters promised some sunshine which never appeared.  The conditions today were the worst I have witnessed for many years of play at Tweedbank for October but this did stop our girls and their determination.
We lost the toss but quickly worked this to our advantage by taking the ball before the opposition had a chance to score from their centre pass and pushed it towards the opposite end. As the drizzle continued we were in high spirits and delighted to score a magnificent four goals in the first half.  The attacking trio of Emily, Iona and Skye worked confidently in wide spaces to pass the ball towards the goal with the support of some great quick thinking and stick skills from Tiggy.  Mabel and Bea were tremendous in midfield as they found good positions to help the attacking players as well as support our defenders.  Sophie kept her eye on the ball in left defence along with Emerson and Harriet, who swept balls away from the goal area with some lovely strong passes.

Our good fortune and strong teamwork continued in the second half although the heavens opened for a torrential rain storm leaving everyone soaked to the skin.  With no one complaining, infact most enjoying the chance to cool-off, we continued to score another three goals only allowing one goal past our defence close to the final whistle.
The girls were amazing today and we were all delighted with the score albeit in rather damp conditions.  Thank you to our supporters today who cheered us on all afternoon throughout seasonal assortment!
A well-deserved half term break will help us to prepare us for a few more matches this term against Fettes, Mowden and Riley House (Strathallan) along with two more fixtures to play again against Loretto and Clifton Hall.
Great effort today!
