U9B Rounders V Cargilfield

24th May 2017

On a hot sunny afternoon we travelled to Cargilfield for our first away match.  We arrived to find we were playing on an astro pitch, fielding was going to be a challenge. The match was to consist of 2 x 20 ball innings.

St Mary’s won the toss and chose to put Cargilfield in to bat. The girls struggled at first to adjust to the faster pace of the ball over the astro and due to a lack of accuracy with stopping and throwing the ball Cargilfield managed to score 7 rounders in their first inning, although due to some super bowling by St Mary’s none were from no-balls.  St Mary’s came into bat and as with last week, although the girls hit the ball, due to some good fielding by Cargilfield we struggled to score. We finished the 1st innings trailing Cargilfield by 3 ½ rounders.

The girls came into the second inning determined to narrow the gap and our fielding was much improved, throwing the ball accurately and some super stopping and catching,   Cargilfield finished their second innings with 4 rounders giving them a total of 11.  We came into bat and after some unsuccessful attempts scored our first full rounder of the season, finishing the innings with 3 rounders, a total of 6 ½.
