1st Rounders Triangular

With Cargilfield and Loretto
Wednesday 24th May 2017
Captain: Millie

1st rounders 24 may

We were disappointed that our first home match was not our finest moment! Having beaten Cargilfield twice this term we knew their players and knew their game. Fielding first, we were just not on the ball and there were too many over throws and missed catches. When we last played this team it took them until ball 16 to mark the sheet-this time, by ball 16, they had scored 7 ½ rounders….this coach was not happy! Half way through the innings the girls composed themselves but it was too little, too late. Lucy took a fine catch and we managed to stump four players out at 2nd post; 3 ½ rounders were scored on the remaining 14 balls taking Cargilfield’s total to an impressive 11-well done, them.

We went in to bat knowing there was a major task ahead but we were unfortunate to lose Millie and Georgia to catches. Louisa was out at 1st and Naesi at 2nd. Full rounders came from Lucy x2, Abbie and Jess with halves for reaching 2nd post from Lucy and Anna. Credit to Eloise who despite not hitting the ball ran round the 4 posts twice and in doing so gained ½ rounders for her clever reading of the game. After 29 balls we had a total of 6 rounders.

Having had a fairly frank talk the girls went in to play Loretto with a tad more focus. Loretto had 2 fabulous hitters and we managed to keep them at bay. Millie made a super catch and there was generally more communication between the team. After 30 balls Loretto had 6 ½ rounders.

This time all players hit the ball on their first attempt but unfortunately Naesi’s went straight to the hands of the back stop. Georgia x2, Eloise x2 , Jess 1 and Lucy x1 were the big hitters in this innings with Louisa x ½ .Lucy x ½ Eloise x ½ ,Millie 2x ½ and Abbie 2 x ½ all reaching 2nd post.

A far better team effort saw the team total at 10 and thus a victory over Loretto.

Cargilfield beat Loretto by 10 ½ rounders to 7 ½. Overall totals were: Cargilfield-18 ½, St. Mary’s -16, Loretto-14.
