Under 10 Triangular v Loretto & Cargilfield
Wednesday 24th May 2017
St. Mary’s 8, Loretto 3½
Captain - Libby
Last match against Loretto – St M 14, Loretto 12½ (difference 2½)
We won the toss and started well in fielding positions. Emily stumped out the very first player at 4th post and we continued to work well together to keep posts covered and keep the deep areas in easy reach. Molly and Willa stumped out another few players at their posts with Elena and Anna keeping the areas around 1st post looked after. As we swapped over I was soon grinning with delighted as player after player hit the ball successfully (22/30 balls) to score a wonderful (winning) score.
Scoring as follows – Freyja ½, Elsa 2, Imo ½, Emily ½, Anna ½, Libby ½, Amelie 1, Molly 1½ and with one additional 1 for two consecutive no balls = 8 Rounders
St. Mary’s 6, Cargilfield 9
Captain - Elsa
Last match against Cargilfield – St M 2½, Cargilfield 7½ (difference 5)
We won the toss and chose to field first and could quickly see that the opposition were even stronger than the last time we met in their batting and tactical skills. With some lovely batting the backstop of Elsa and Freyja kept play quick and accurate as they passed back and forward to try to stop the live batter scoring. I was delighted to see Imo gain confidence at 2nd post and stump out a player half way through the game. We knew we had to get over 9 to win the game as we lined up to bat and we gave it our best shot! Play started well with most players scoring but then we lost our edge and starting to miss ball after ball resulting in little or no score. The last two players of the match notched up another `1½ rounders but it was just too little too late for the second time around against Cargilfield.
Scoring as follows – Freyja 1½, Elsa 1½, Imo ½, Emily 2 and Amelie ½.
Loretto 1, Cargilfield 5½
With the final game underway, it was apparent very quickly that Cargilfield were the stronger team of the triangular match today, once again taking victory from our hosts.
Huge thanks to Loretto today for hosting and to Mrs Dolby who kindly helped with transport.
I was delighted with our statistics today, we have made great progress since we last met with the teams. We had a lovely afternoon and by the sound of the singing on the minibus on the way home we are raring to go for our match next week against Belhaven!
Well done to all.
