Scottish Prep Schools Clay Pigeon Shooting Championship

Once again this May we set forth for Strathallan School for the annual clay shooting championships. This year we had the young but no less enthusiastic team of Jamie F, Antony dG and Jake M.
As ever, we were very well hosted and enjoyed a superb shoot lunch prior to the competition. This year 4 teams were competing for the Barrack De Cefco trophy, two teams from Riley House, one from Belhaven and St. Mary’s.
The competition itself was challenging. Gusty winds made the small targets even more tricky! However, the standard of shooting from all the boys was impressive. The targets included springing teal, bolting rabbits, crossers, you name it, they had it! They also came as singles, in pairs and on report.
Once all the boys had shot, we went back for tea and presentations. Much to their credit, team St. Mary’s had managed to come second to a crack team from Riley and only by a very small margin. But the good news didn’t stop there! Jake, who we knew had shot well, was presented with the ‘Top Gun’ prize for the competition with an impressive 14 out of 20. So, having missed out on retaining the team prize by a couple of clays, it was excellent that we managed to regain the ‘best shot’ prize! Congratulations, Jake!
So, a hugely successful afternoon on all accounts and thank you to Strathallan for hosting the event.
