U13 Hockey 3 March

Aberlour’s now annual visit to Melrose was once again a timely opportunity for the girls to down the netballs in favour of their hockey sticks and gain some much needed practice prior to the Kilgraston hockey tournament. As ever, the afternoon was a friendly and well contested meeting which saw some superb hockey being played.
With timings fairly tight there was limited time for practice drills; just a quick warm up, rock, paper scissors to decide who got push back, then we played two, 20 minute halves.
The game got off to a steady start and both teams enjoyed their fair share of possession. Before long, however, our superior stick skills and work rate started to shine through and we began to dominate. The girls worked hard and even when placed out of position, they linked really well with each other and were a constant threat on the Aberlour goal.
With the 2nds playing on the adjacent pitch, I was delighted to be able to give some of them a run out for the 1sts too. Freya, Maria & Eloise enjoyed time on the pitch and all made worthy contributions.
By the close of play I was pleased to have seen so many aspects of their game returning in bucket loads. The two month absence from playing together was evident at times but all things considered, this was a great performance and a perfect warmup for the tournament on Saturday 18th March at Kilgraston. Well done, girls.
