Longridge Towers was our destination this week for a rare fixture against their junior school. The drive by bus has to be one of the most picturesque in the Borders, if not the country. Madame Hutchison and Mr Rutherford were great company for the outing.

Upon arrival at Longridge, we were straight down to business. A brief warm up and passing session was followed by a competitive game of 8 a side football down on the front pitch. Unfortunately for my recently purchased New Balance Trainers, there had been a little bit of rain resulting in a very squishy and muddy pitch…

However, the lads were eager for a good run around and many screamers. The pitch was fairly small but this was actually a healthy thing as it promoted passing and intelligent play to overcome the crowded area.

The boys played well with Josh melting a screamer into the net from an early start. This theme continued throughout the game with him managing to get a hattrick. John, Ollie and Ewan also managed to put some lovely shots past the Longridge keeper resulting in a hefty 6-0 win.

The rest of the boys played well, Tom, Nic and Tristian were stout in defence and attack making secure decisions and applying pressure. Finlay and Robbie displayed slick skills on the ball, making ground and passing accurately. Henry was making spectacular free kicks, displaying hefty power and accuracy.

After the first half we mixed the teams up to play a mixed side game, which was super for all the lads involved. It was great just to see all the lads having fun and a good kick around.

Final score 6-0

A big thanks to the Longridge Staff for putting on an excellent and fun fixture, the parents who came to watch and Madame Hutchison for driving so well.
