U11A Netball Tournament

U11 Netball 1 March

The girls travelled to Crieff in a positive frame of mind, determined that the work they had done to date should reap rewards.

Games were short so it was vital that the girls worked hard from the whistle and took every opportunity to get the ball to Hannah and Lara. Against Cargilfield we scored almost immediately, having the lead was important and thus the girls were instructed to slow the game down. Cargilfield were good and feisty too, but in their panic they were tending to throw the ball away-that was fine by us as we collected the ball and netted a second, a 2-0 victory.
Ardvreck tried very hard against us but our defence were too nimble and intercepted every ball which entered the defensive D. Strong shooting ensured us a 5-0 win.

Our final pool game was against Craigclowan-they were equally as good as us and with both teams missing shots on goal we were fortunate to come away with a 0-0 draw. With two wins and a draw we were the pool winners and thus straight in to the final.

The final was a 10 minute encounter with Belhaven-we knew they were strong team and that they would be keen to get one over us as we had won earlier in the term. Indeed, Belhaven scored first and it looked for a couple of minutes as if St. Mary’s had run out of steam. The U13 team cheered and supported from the banking above the courts and the girls told me afterwards that it was this encouragement that spurred them on. After the toughest 10 minutes of the day we were ecstatic to have scored 4 goals to Belhaven’s 2. A wonderful display of U11 netball from both teams-my word the Dandylions selectors will have a tough job in two years!
