U11B Netball v Fettes

Wednesday 22nd February 2017
St Mary’s 7: Fettes 7
Captain: Hannah
The Under 11B girls came back from half term knowing this match would be a tough one. Fettes proved to be fierce competition but the St Mary's girls matched their intensity right from the very first quarter. Some lovely court movement and shooting from Molly allowed St Mary's to get the ball up to the attacking goal circle and score three goals. Unfortunately, Fettes were just as quick to get the ball and shoot, the score 3-3 at quarter time.
At quarter time break we talked about trying to keep possession of the ball, so I was super impressed when Lucy made three intercepts in the second quarter, possession of the ball returning to St Mary's as a consequence. Similarly, Hannah made some great rebounds in the defensive goal circle which stopped Fettes from scoring any points in the second quarter.
Fettes substituted some taller players on the court in the second half so that the St Mary's girls had to work a little harder. Always great in defence, Amelie and Libby stood up to this challenge fantastically. Despite this, Fettes whipped the ball down the court several times and were eventually successful in getting a goal.
With the scores tied at four all, it was all or nothing in the last quarter. We got ahead on the scoreboard thanks to some great passing from Anna down to the attacking end where Maria was able to score some goals, and with 30 seconds to go we were winning 7-6. Unfortunately, the St Mary's girls became flustered with the intensity of the match and Fettes were able to score a last second heart breaker. Despite this, I was super impressed and proud of the girls efforts today. Special thanks to the parents who came to encourage the girls and made them feel like they were playing in a World Cup final.
Goals: Molly x4, Maria x3
