U11 As 8 tries – 4 tries

Finally, a game of rugby! It was difficult to determine who was more excited myself or the kids and this fairly showed in their performance. It was a blustery but sunny day on the outskirts of Edinburgh, that the U11 A team were up for it especially after playing Merchiston already twice this year.

The game kicked off and with his first touch in St. Marys colours Ollie Earnshaw spotted a gap in the opening seconds and broke the line to run half the pitch and opening the scoring. This certainly set the standard for the rest of the afternoon with all the boys determined to get on the score sheet!    Over the last couple of rugby session, we have been concentrating on attacking the ball from depth and running straight and this was executed close to perfection, and the next try followed swiftly! Merchiston responded quickly and got a try of their own and dug in deep with their defence after wave and wave of St Marys attack kept coming.

Second half kicked off and it was Merchiston’s turn to score quickly, which put a bit of pressure on the St. Marys boys but they responded well and the next tries came very quickly! It wasn’t all attack tho and the boys defended very well. Geordie smashing boys left right and centre, a total of 10 turnovers combined between Thomas Elliot, Archie Morris and Caelan Ballantyne, Mac Rutherford being an absolute nuisance at ruck time! Our attack was dictated by Fredrick pulling the strings at first receiver, and this was aided by the twinkle toes of Stuart Mitchell and the bullish runs of Archie MacDonell.

The final try scorers were Caelan (4), Thomas (1), Ollie (2) and Mac (1)

Well played boys!!
