1st VII Netball v Mowden Hall
Wednesday 25th January
St. Mary’s 15, Mowden Hall 28
Today’s game perhaps didn’t pan out as hoped. Conditions were cold but dry, cold enough for the hands and fingers to tingle but far from the sleet, hail and snow we endured during this fixture two years ago! Mowden were a good side, strong and clinical on the ball, they shot well and proved tricky customers to mark!
The first quarter was nip and tuck. Both sides played some lovely netball and at 6 – 6 after the first 10 minutes, it looked as though the game was going to be there for the taking. I don’t think we slackened off in the second quarter, rather, I think the Mowden girls found another gear and subsequently we found ourselves half a yard off the pace. They dominated quarters 2 and 3, so at the third and final interval, our team talk focused on going back to basics, passing accurately, cutting out mistakes and working hard off the ball.
I was delighted that the girls found their confidence again in the final quarter and once again, worked the space well, found their range with both their passing and shooting and left the court with their heads high. That said, there’s plenty to work on; accuracy of passing and movement being most prevalent.
Next week we welcome Belhaven for a 2.30pm start.
