U12 v Riley House dec 16

The last game of the season saw the U12 team heading north to play Riley House. St. Mary’s were quick to make their mark on the Riley girls and scored three goals in relatively quick succession. Riley had some big hitters who were very strong in our D when left unmarked. However, our defence were on the ball as ever, and they managed to collectively deter Riley from scoring. Despite being 3-0 up at half time, the girls hadn’t been demonstrating their best hockey and so a quick chat about not resting on their laurels was had and they were sent off to give 110% in their final twenty minutes of play for the season.

The second half was a lot more composed and skilful, rather than the bull-in-a-china-shop ways of the first half. The girls were looking up, communicating and utilising each other to the upmost benefit of the team. The Riley girls, however, were upping their game too and a lapse in concentration from the St. Mary’s team left their opposition with a free run to the goal which they deservedly scored. There was clear frustration in the ranks but the girls fought back and worked hard to score another four goals before the final whistle blew.

A great result to end the season on and a lovely time was had due to the friendly and welcoming nature of Riley House. It’s been a brilliant few months and the improvement across the team has been instrumental to their successes. Well done girls!
