2nd VIII v Mowden Hall

Wednesday 30th November 2016
St. Mary’s 4
Mowden 3
2nd VIII Hockey 301116

It was a bit of a slow start to the game this week but a quick goal in the first 5 minutes got the girls perked up and looking a lot more energetic. There was some super play from the whole team and the progress this group of girls have made of the season is remarkable. The goals they scored were by no means flukes, yet structured passages of play that ended in the number one rule; hitting the target.

It was 3-1 to St. Mary’s at half time but there certainly wasn’t time for any complacency. Mowden were fighting hard in the second half and got themselves two more well-deserved goals by smashing the ball through the gaps in our players. As the last five minutes were counting down, the score was three all and the St. Mary’s forwards were not giving up. They had shot after shot after shot in the D but they were either wide of the goal post or saved by Mowden’s highly capable goalie. However, in the final couple of minutes, the St. Mary’s girls’ gutsy and relentless approach got them the final goal of the match, but it did not come easy.

Mowden were a great team to play and both teams deserve credit for their performances.

Well done girls for another super game. The motto of the day was, “Stick in until we win!” adapted from Miss Simpson’s, “Stick in until you stick out” quote from assembly last week and every member of the 2nd VIII certainly did just that today.
