Clifton Hall have really improved in hockey over the past couple of years so I was aware this would be a tough game. The game started slowly with neither team taking control and a wee bit of ping-pong was being played. Once the girls had warmed up a little the game began to flow a bit more and a better shape emerged; passing was stronger and more direct though communication was lacking just slightly. A much need goal was scored by Hannah C and so we went in to half time with the upper hand.

The second half was fast and furious, Clifton Hall had one particularly strong player and we were all impressed by her stick skills. Luckily though, we were strong too and were not intimidated by her mature play. A soft goal, following a muddle up in our D saw Clifton Hall take advantage and pop the ball in to the net –with only 5 minutes to go the score was 1-1. A determined set of young ladies got their act together and after some nifty stick work and just sheer grit a team goal was fired in to the back of the net by Mhairi. The final score was 2-1 to St. Mary’s; a fair reflection of a cracking game.

The next game with Clifton Hall playing Ardvreck was won by Clifton Hall 3-0

The final game of the triangular was superb game of hockey; every girl on the pitch played her heart out. Anna, who played in both games, deserves special mention-for long phases of play she was left unneeded but my word, when she was required she sprang in to action and saved us from a couple of near misses.

The first goal of the match was a from a fantastic Lucy M cross to Libby, Libby was beautifully positioned on the left of the post and calmly slotted it home.  Ardvreck equalised just before half time so our chat focussed on good communication and on keeping our feet out of the way!

Ardvreck were first to score in the second half and, just as in the previous game, we watched the girls ‘up the ante’-they did not enjoy being on the back foot. Some quite fantastic play from Molly C, Lara and Hannah F resulted in the ball being fed forward where Hannah C was ready to strike-this happened on not one, not two but THREE occasions all within the space of 4 minutes! Some super team work was enough to give us a 4-2 win-just magic!

Well done to the entire U11 squad; I am so proud of you all J
