U9 Rugby Triangular
at Merchiston, Ardvrek Triangular
This was our first game that took place in truly wintery conditions, at Merchiston Castle, on the outskirts of Edinburgh.
The annual triangular is always a good day out, filled with healthy rugby from all schools involved.
Our first fixture was against Ardvrek who, until Wednesday were un-played, yet it was a real pleasure playing against another able side. The game was fairly well balanced and towards the end Ardvrek were pinning us well within our own half and scoring some cracking tries. Our performance however, was of a robust standard, playing to the width and offering steady and effective tempo at the break downs. Every boy was getting stuck in, which was outstanding to see.
6 – 2 to St Mary’s, was the final score.
The following game was against Merchiston, who were on top form! They played a really healthy game of rugby, challenging us at the break downs and offering really strong running at the width.
It was a really tight game with St Mary’s defence holding firmly and running well, making good lines and off loads. I was really pleased to see passing whilst moving and great support running.
There were some quality play from our boys, including ambitious pick and go’s, huge running and great stepping with nimble feet.
It was a really tight game with both sides contesting well for the win, however our boys managed to come out just on top resulting in a 5-4 win.
The most important thing for me was watching boys from the Bs step up and play at very high standard of rugby, all of them were tackling, passing accurately and making good carries.
Over all a really rewarding day out for all teams involved, with some excellent refing thrown in for good measure.
A massive thank you to Mr Jackson and Mr Gordon for driving the boys to and from the match, and to all the parents who came to watch and support.
