On a fairly miserable day, St. Mary's travelled to Haddington to play Compass. The warm up went well and with the boys raring to go, the match got underway. St Mary's got off to a great start, putting Compass under quite a lot of pressure, however the pressure was not converted into points. With the ball slippery, it led to a few mistakes and with a lack of tackling it led to the first score for Compass.

This lead was soon to be quashed as Mitchell C hit a great line off the restart, offloading to Stewart M allowing him a clear run to the line. There seemed to a be a bit of a lapse in concentration as St. Mary's allowed Compass a run straight through the line once again. This was to be a similar theme throughout the game for both sides.

At the end of the first half St Mary's attack seemed to have Compass on the back foot with some great handling from Alex M, Ollie L nearly managed to get himself over the line in the corner, if only the pitch was a little wider! And with this the the first half ended 3-2 in Compass' favour.

The second half started off a lot better than the first in terms of defence with some big hits going in from Henry S and Geordie M, it seemed to make the Compass attack a bit wary. The St. Mary's team were a lot more organised in their defence, and with this it brought about more mistakes from the Compass side. This led to some great phases of play, allowing Ed S to cross the whitewash, not once, but twice! This was followed by a great piece of play from the backs linking together with Robbie L releasing Archie J down the wing, and with a great line from Callum A through the Compass defence, it allowed him to touch down for the final score of the day.

Even though the score didn't go St. Mary's way in the end, it was one of their best all round performances against a bigger and far more physical team!
Well done boys!
