U11B Hockey v Loretto

Six a side

U11b Hockey 91116

An enthusiastic U11B team greeted Loretto with a warm welcome, the Captain Molly organised the toss and the game was underway. I was impressed the team were able to structure themselves on the pitch with both depth and width creating a strong defensive barrier for Loretto’s first centre. St Mary’s soon stole the ball and confidently moved it into attack. This was a common feature throughout the first half with Centre Mid Molly winning possession of the ball with some strong tackling and accurate passing to both Lucy and Lara in Attack. A combined team effort allowed Lucy to put away two confident goals and the team were beaming with delight. Loretto ventured into their attacking half but any possible shots were very efficiently dealt with by defenders Hannah and Libby. A number of inspirational clears eluded Loretto the chance of a goal. The score at the end of the first half was 2-1 to St Mary’s.

Loretto started the second half with a much more determined and confident attitude, making stronger tackles and moving the ball around more freely. Their shots at goal were fast and they were able to score three goals as a result. Not to be out done, St Mary’s fought back with Left Mid Anna making some sound tackles and driving the ball to Molly. Lara had a number of long runs with the ball, beating the opposition and shooting for goal. She was able to finish one of these runs with a well deserved goal. Molly scored another making the final score 4-3 to St Mary’s.

Thank you for asking me to referee. It was a pleasure to take this hard working and delightful team who very much deserved their win. A big thank you also to their enthusiastic and vocal supporters.
