U10 Hockey v Fettes

Wednesday 2nd November
St. Mary’s 1, Fettes 1

U10 Hockey 21116

Our fixture today was very much “a tale of two halves!”

Fettes quickly displayed their strong defence along with confident and skilful players in attack and scored a goal with ease in the first half.  We continued to fight back but the opposition had very strong sweepers who time and time again pushed the ball away from the goal mouth with great power and accuracy.

In the second half we knew we had to change things around.  I was delighted to see everyone focus on the game and pull together to push the ball towards the goals on numerous  occasions, it was just very difficult to get the ball past the aforementioned defence duo.  Eventually, with great team work, skill and a little luck, we scored to make the score 1-1.  The team continued to work hard to try to take the lead right up until the last few seconds when they scored but as the free hit was awarded to the attack, the ball must not be played into the scoring circle until it has travelled at least 5 metres outside the circle.  Therefore, the score remained 1-1.

This was a tough game today, probably our most energetic and competitive to date but I was delighted with the commitment, passion and resilience today.

Thank you to our loyal supporters today who cheered us on during the match.
