U11A Hockey v Dollar Academy

Wednesday 5th October 2016

St.Mary’s-6: Dollar-2
Captain: Eliza

U11A Hockey 51016

Dollar looked good during their warm up so we talked about tight marking and taking a quick lead. Receptive, as ever, to my instructions, every member of the team did exactly what was asked of her.

Anna was on her toes in the goal mouth and although she had nothing to do in the first half she was put under some pressure after half time; a couple of fabulous saves ensured we kept our comfortable lead and the two goals scored were hard shots that even the most experienced goalie would have struggled to stop. Molly S and Amelie worked well together and have become increasingly confident in meeting the attacker and keeping the pressure on, whilst ensuring one of them is still back in case of a breakaway towards the goalmouth. Our midfield of Maria, Rosie and Eliza worked their socks off and actually let very little past them towards the defence, particularly in the first half. Hannah C and Mhairi positioned themselves well always ready to receive a pass from the midfield; they used their skills and strength to great effect and the goals they scored were well taken.

I was really pleased with how the girls held their structure today, they remembered to lift their heads and realised they do not have to panic when they receive the ball. One aspect we will be working on is keeping sticks on the ground when the opposition have a free hit….girls, girls, how often do I say it?!

Scorers: Hannah C x3, Mhairi x2, Rosie x1

Well played, a deserved win!
