2nd XI Cricket v Belhaven
Wednesday 25th May
Liam B (C)
On a fairly cold and dismal day in the Borders, St. Mary's took to the back pitches to face off against Belhaven. With Belhaven winning the toss and electing to bat first, St. Mary's took to the field and set about trying to topple the Belhaven batsmen. This seemed like it was going to be a challenge as the opening pairing for Belhaven were playing some good shots and utilising the shorter boundaries to good effect. However upon Thomas' and Hamish' first and second overs respectively, wickets were conceded by Belhaven which seemed to give the St. Mary's boys a boost of much needed confidence, with the boys becoming a lot more alert in the field. However, with the extras slowly beginning to mount up in Belhaven's favour and some miss throws in the field, the total was looking to be a daunting task to chase for the St. Mary's boys. 2 more wickets did fall in the last few overs with Wilfie bowling their strongest batsman and with a good throw from Mauz, it also allowed Joseph to stump their opener. With the end of the 20 overs, the Belhaven total stood at 138 runs.
After tea St. Mary's went in to bat with Liam and James Ca opening. The batting started well with some sensible cricket from the opening pair. However with the fall of James' wicket, it took a little while before the runs began to come again. With bat in hand, Mauz showed a much improved shot selection from previous matches as he quickly managed to amass a good number of runs. With other runs coming from Adam A and Adam B, it just wasn't quite enough to beat the Belhaven total. On a positive note, each individual and the team as a whole is making progress in the right direction, well done boys!
