1st Rounders v Cargilfield 25

Cargilfield-6: St.Mary’s-4
St.Mary’s-6: Loretto 3 ½
Cargilfield-9 ½ : Loretto-3

Captain: Stephanie

A blustery afternoon in Edinburgh saw the 1st IX take to the pitch for their last matches of the season. Batting against Cargilfield, Captain Stephanie led by example and scored a cracking rounder with the first hit of the game; unfortunately this was followed by Louisa, Lucy B, Millie and Lucy R all being caught out and Cameron being stumped at post 3. Suddenly, and all too quickly, we were left with just 4 players! Stephanie scored a second rounder, Flora collected ½ before being stumped at 1st, Molly gained a ½ for reaching second and we were awarded 1 rounder for 2x no balls and an obstruction. After 22 good balls our batting was over and we had only 4 rounders-not the start we had been hoping for.

Some super fielding with catches from Cameron, Annabel and Stephanie and great communication between the girls gave our hosts a fright. Again we were so near victory but a couple of last minute no balls and unfortunate obstructions saw us throw the game away-Cargilfield score 6 to our 4.
Cargilfield then went on to beat Loretto 9 ½ -3.

Keen for a victory the girls kept their game tight in the field against Loretto; Catches in this innings came from Millie, Lucy B and Cameron; quick work at 1st and 2nd posts saw Stephanie and Flora stump non-hitters and after just 20 balls and 3 ½ rounders we had the entire Loretto team out.

The batting started well with full rounders from Millie, Lucy B and Stephanie; the girls were hitting well but equally, Loretto were fielding these hits back in fairly rapidly! Cameron was unlucky to have a mighty hit caught by the opposition and Molly mis-timed her run and was stumped at 2nd. Another full from Stephanie and halves for reaching 2nd from Annabel, Lucy B, Stephanie and Louisa gave us a total of 6 after 30 good balls.

A lovely afternoon catching up with old friends-this team have made super progress over the course of the term; with only two girls having played in last year’s 1st IX ,the team had to be re-built. Given their inexperience they have done remarkably well with each girl contributing to the cause.
