U11A v Mowden Hall

Venue: St Mary’s
Date: 11 May 2016
Won by 9 wickets

A very sunny day greeted Mowden and St Mary’s on front field for St Mary’s third fixture of the season.

What a cracker it proved to be!

Tommy won the toss and chose to field first. Mowden came into bat with confidence. Some powerful and accurate bowling from Will and Alexander prevented many runs being hit and some good fielding was on show. Walking in is still a big work on for the team and they all need to buy into it to get better. The first wicket fell after a terrific bowl from Will on middle stump. The next wicket fell to Antony who put a great bowl down offside for the batsman to knick it and Tommy caught it at a stretch behind the stumps.

William got the next wicket as the batsman tried to hit long back over William’s head. Oliver was having none of it and produced the most amazing diving catch that got everyone watching on their feet! Brilliant! The next two wickets came from fantastic reactions from Tommy at wicky. Both Will and Frederick were the bowlers. Tommy’s reactions behind the stumps and good fielding enabled very efficient run out’s. That was it, after 20 overs, Mowden hit 109 for 5 wickets.

After tea, Will and Tommy came to the crease and initiated a run of form that almost lasted until the end of the game! There were 4s, 6s, singles and doubles galore. Both Will and Tommy played their hearts out and made (almost) all the correct decisions! Will had a cracker and unfortunately due to a rush of blood to the head, he got run out in the 10th over but scored a very solid 38 runs.

Frederick came to the crease to partner Tommy and closed the game out in style hitting a 4 and a single. Tommy finished on 45 runs not out. A great performance for his team coupled with Mowden bowling a number of extras meant St Mary’s won by 9 wickets after 12 overs and 2 bowls.
Well done lads, great effort but let’s keep improving.
