U9A Rounder v Loretto

Wednesday 4th May 2016
At Loretto

The sun was shining, the pitch was dry and despite the strong wind St Mary’s U9 were looking forward to their game against Loretto.

St Mary’s won the toss and opted to field first. From the off, the bowling proved very difficult in the strong wind and the St Mary’s bowler struggled giving away a number of half rounders for no balls. The Loretto team had some excellent batters who tested the St Mary’s fielders. This was all good experience and many lessons were learnt! Loretto finished the first innings with an impressive total  11 rounders, 5 or these were full rounders  scored from a hit.

St Mary’s went in to bat with mixed success, again the strong wind making it difficult for them to connect bat with ball. St Mary’s made some excellent running decisions and managed to keep their score creeping up with some sneeky half rounders and a couple of well hit full rounders.

The score at half time was 11 – 8 ½  to Loretto and St Mary’s had it all to do.

St Mary’s second fielding innings was much more slick and they were able to hold Loretto to a final score of 14 1/2 . Much more accurate catching and throwing and some sensible fielding enabled St Mary’s to stump four  Loretto players  out at posts. The fielding finished on a high when St Mary’s  back stop made an excellent catch from behind to dispose of the fifth player.

The final score was 14 ½ - 11 ½ to Loretto. Quite a close game but a deserved win for Loretto. St Mary’s have a few tactics to work on and look forward to a re match in a couple of weeks time.

Well played Elena R, Freyja, Iona, Tiggy, Elsa, Elena DG, Skye, Willa, Emily
