2nd Rounders v Mowden Hall

26th April 2016
Captain: Eloise Wexelstein
It was a home game this week against Mowden Hall and we knew they would be strong competitors; the girls were keen and  down at the fields promptly warming up for the match. Again this week, St. Mary’s welcomed a player from the opposing team to make up for the fact the team is one player short. Similarly, to last week St. Mary’s was batting first.
The girls entered the game with determination and positivity. Some rounders were scored and they finished the first innings with 3.5. The fielding this week had improved markedly from last week and the accuracy which the girls displayed is to be commended; after I commented last week on the lack of communication throughout the game, I witnessed a major improvement in this area. Fantastic to see the feedback is being taken on board. At the conclusion of the first innings, the score was 3.5-5.5 to Mowden Hall.
Although Mowden were in the lead the girls did not let their spirits drop. They were only 2 points ahead and we knew that the fight wasn’t entirely over. St. Mary’s approached their second innings with determination; however, every player was eventually stumped out by the opponents who had obviously stepped up their game. The St. Mary’s girls finished the innings at 28 good balls with every player stumped out. Although disappointing, the girls tried their hardest and that’s all that can be asked. As Mowden had their second go at batting the excellent fielding from the St Mary’s side continued; however, not quite enough to take the win.

The final score of the match was 7-15 to Mowden Hall. Well done to all the girls on their efforts regardless of the result. Let’s hope next week that we can continue to see improvements!
